MEN AND WOMEN'S TENNIS TEAMS HEAD SOUTH
RICHMOND, Ky.-The Eastern Kentucky University tennis teams head south during spring break, March 13-20, to open up the outdoor portion of their 1999 schedules.
"I think we will do well on the road," said EKU head coach Tom Higgins. "The teams have been working very hard in practice to polish up some of their techniques."
The men's tennis team, currently 1-10 on the year, will begin the week by playing at Troy State on March 13th at 12:00 p.m. The Colonels then move over to Jacksonville on March 14th to play Jacksonville State. Birmingham and Florence, Alabama, are the team's next two stops, where EKU takes on Samford University and North Alabama, respectively.
Senior Adam Doyle leads the team with a 6-9 record at No. 1 singles, while Jamey Sellars follows with a 4-9 record at No. 3 singles. Doyle and Sellars are also leading the doubles category with a 9-7 record. Doyle-Sellars represented EKU last fall in the Rolex Southern Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament in Athens, GA. They were 1-1 in the tourament which played host to some of the toughest competition in the nation.
Eastern's women's team, 3-4 on the year, start at Bethune-Cookman on March 14th in Daytona Beach, FL. Then Tuesday at 2:00 p.m., Eastern faces Flagler at St. Augustine, FL. EKU closes spring break action at Jacksonville in competition with Jacksonville and North Florida.
Tara Williams leads the Lady Colonels tennis team with an 8-10 individual record at No. 2 singles, while freshman Susan Ferguson is second with her 5-11 mark at No. 1 singles.
